Maureen V. Kelly, age 59, cherished daughter of the late Thomas and Genevieve Kelly; loving sister of Kathleen Kelly; dear cousin, loving aunt, cherished friend and mentor to so many. Maureen was godmother to many children, including Ryan, Evan and Patrick Connell, Shane Zillmann and Julian Popp.
Maureen dedicated her career to Darien School District # 61 for 35 years, serving at Hinsbrook / Mark DeLay School beginning as a teacher’s aide in 1974, then teaching 4th and 6th grades from 1976 – 1995, followed by serving as principal from 1995 until retiring in 2009. Maureen received a letter of recognition from the State of Illinois for the highest I.G.A.P. writing scores for the 1994-1995 school year. She coached both softball and volleyball for 10 years, leading many #1 teams during that time. Her leadership and compassion, sense of humor and gentle direction will be remembered and sorely missed by the Mark DeLay community.
Visitation Monday, November 29, 2010 from 3-9 pm at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 5015 Lincoln Ave., Lisle (on Rt. 53, ½ mile south of Ogden Ave. / Rt. 34) where funeral services will begin Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at 10:15 am and proceed to St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church for Mass at 11:15 am. Burial will follow at Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery, North Ave. at Columbia Ave., Naperville.
In the nature of this world, there needs to be those who put others first, who hold out a helping and supportive hand. Maureen Kelly was one of those people.
