Karen was born in Chicago, Illinois, daughter of George and Alvira (Lee) Barringer. She grew up in Forest Park, Illinois and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education at Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio. She married Ronnie Dubinoff on May 4, 1991.
After teaching several years she began her 35-year career at American Airlines. Travel was a lifelong passion for Karen and together, the Dubinoff family traveled extensively throughout the US, Mexico, Europe, and beyond. She was a devoted and loving mother to her three children who she cherished beyond measure. Karen always put others in front of herself. She was a great friend to many, always giving selflessly to help others. She was thoughtful, kind, generous and enjoyed the little things in life like bike riding with her kids and lunch with a friend. Her friendship circle was wide and Karen always remembered everyone’s birthday, anniversary and other special occasions with a card and heartfelt note. She truly believed and practiced supporting local businesses throughout Lisle and beyond (even before COVID-19). She loved a good play, an afternoon at the park, and being surrounded by her family. Karen was a faithful member of Faith United Methodist Church in Downer’s Grove where she served as a Sunday school teacher and friend to many. Karen will be deeply missed by all the lives she touched, particularly her family, friends and coworkers.
She is survived by husband, Ronnie; children Jenna (Adam) Ervin of Tempe, Arizona, Lauren of Lisle, Illinois, and Jack of Chicago, Illinois; sister Sonja (Jerry) Carlson of Plymouth, Minnesota; and many other relatives including nieces, nephews and cousins. Karen was preceded in death by her parents George and Alvira Barringer; and loyal dog Cosmo.
A celebration of Karen’s life will take place on Friday, March 12, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 5015 Lincoln Avenue (Route 53 and Short Street) Lisle, Illinois 60532. A private burial will follow on March 13th at Lisle Cemetery.
