Born to Joseph and Ardis Accurso on January 18, 1939 in Chicago, IL, Joe grew up the youngest of three children. In 1957, Joe joined the 82nd Airborne Division of the Army where he completed 25 paratrooper jumps during his three years of service. Upon exiting the Army, Joe returned to his job at AT&T/Lucent where he worked his way up from a forklift driver to a software engineer during his 44 years with the Company. In 1981, Joe married Karla Accurso. They had three children and lived in Lisle, IL.
Joe loved woodworking and was known as the Wild Woodcarver of Lisle as he created beautiful carvings of animals and bird houses that were displayed around the community. As a Boy Scout Den Leader, Joe welcomed many scouts into his woodshop and helped them create their car to compete in the Annual Pinewood Derby. Joe loved Dobermans, Western movies and nature and was a longtime member of the Morton Arboretum. He is survived by his spouse Karla, children Kim (Scott), Nikki (Brad), Michael (Amanda) and grandchildren Peyton, Beckham, Madelyn, Connor, Gavin, Andrew and Emilia.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of Joe at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 5015 Lincoln Ave, Lisle, IL on Sunday, October 24th from 10am-12pm. The burial will be held privately at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Memorial Hospital in Joe’s memory.
