Jim was born October 31, 1952, in Chicago to James and Celine (Carpenter) Gentile and grew up in the Beverly Woods neighborhood. He served his country – first in the U.S. Army in Vietnam and later in the U.S. Navy, where he served from 1984 until his retirement in 1999 with the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer.
Left behind to mourn his passing are his parents, James and Celine Gentile, sisters Eileen (Charles) Hlubocky and Patricia Gentile, nephews Brian (Elizabeth) and James (Jennifer) Hlubocky, and John and Matthew Gentile, and great nephews and nieces Thomas Gentile, Zachary and Megan Hlubocky, and Adeline Hlubocky. He was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Gentile, in 2009.
Visitation will be held at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 5015 Lincoln Avenue, Lisle, on Tuesday, September 27, from 3-9 PM. A visitation will follow on Wednesday, September 28, from 9:30-10:30 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 1500 Brookdale Road, Naperville, with a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 10:30 AM.
