Geraldine M. Janovsky, nee Chirpka, age 100, of Story Point in Naperville, previously a long time resident of Lisle for 59 years, passed away on January 29, 2024. Geraldine was the beloved wife of the late Edward C. Janovsky; loving mother of Jill (Gary) Olsen, Wayne (Colette Beilke) Janovsky and Bruce (Laura Tabisz) Janovsky; cherished grandmother of Chris Janovsky, Adam (Margaret) Janovsky, and Rachel Janovsky; dear great grandmother of Theo Janovsky.
She is survived by her brother Gerald Chirpka, one niece (Laura) and two nephews (Gregg and Matt).Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents Rose and John and sister-in-laws Noel Chirpka and Mille Janovsky as well one niece (Suzanne).
Geraldine was born in Chicago. After graduating from high school she worked at Hibbert as a secretary. She met her husband Edward dancing at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago. They were married for 52 years. Their three children were all born in Chicago. They moved to Lisle in 1959.
Geraldine enjoyed being a loving mother to her three kids. She was active as a room mother along with assistant scout leaders for Girls Scouts and Cub Scouts. If not involved directly, she was always there at sporting events or school activities to support her children
After her children graduated high school she went back into the work force. First working at Wieboldt’s in Yorktown and finishing her career working at Loehmann’s, where she established long lasting friendships.
Geraldine adored her three grandchildren and always looked forward to seeing them and going to their school activities or sporting events. She was a very proud grandmother.
She also cherished the times she got to see her great grandson. Her days were always brightened seeing pictures and videos of him.
Her husband was an avid harmonica player. As a result they would go to listen to polka bands play in the area so that Ed could play a few songs with them.
She also loved traveling with her family, sister in-law Millie Janovsky, and her daughter-in-law’s, mother Edina Beilke. Geraldine and Edina enjoyed going to the casinos playing the penny slots. Geraldine also loved gardening.
Visitation is on Monday, February 5, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Blake Lamb Funeral Home 5015 Lincoln Ave., Lisle. The funeral mass will be at 10:00 AM at St Joan of Arc Catholic Church 820 Division Street, Lisle, Illinois on Tuesday, February 6th, 2024. Burial will follow at Assumption Cemetery in Winfield, IL.
