Claretta was adopted at the young age of nine by the late Samuel and Lucille Benion as they moved to Chicago. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age.
Samuel and Lucille raised her with kindness and love. She was a cheerleader at Farragut High School and graduated with honors from Triton College. After teaching kindergarten for a short time, her vocation changed to Nursing and Medical Administration a very similar career as her adopted mother, Lucille.
While living at home, Claretta met the love of her life, Wilson Jordan whose family lived next door. After a moderate and persistent courtship, they married, moved to the Western Suburbs of Chicago, and two beautiful daughters were born out of their union: Kyla Jordan and Krystal Jordan-Glispie. Besides raising two lovely women, she enjoyed reading, collecting figurines, watching basketball, singing, and fine dining.
She and her husband enjoyed building a home where family would gather for a good meal, play cards, and listen to music to truly enjoy life together. Travel played a big part of their time as husband and wife and have many shared memories of road trips, cruises, and visiting family in various states.
Claretta retired from her career in Medical Administration in 2005. Her love of Christ continued in retirement and DuPage AME Church fostered her growing relationship. As a very devout member, Claretta was active in the Chancellor and Acapella Choirs as well as the Missionary Society. The Imani Investment Club was also an integral part in keeping her mind sharp and savvy in changing times.
Her kind, compassionate demeanor, a true lady of elegance and class was always willing to lend a hand to her family, colleagues, and fellow church members.
Cherishing her memory are daughters Kyla Jordan, Krystal (Orlando) Glispie, Sister Brenda Tamplin, two very special friends Vicki Woodards and Mae Taylor, one special niece Wanda Williams, a host of nieces, great nieces, nephews, great nephews, excellent neighbors, friends and extended family that she met along her journey.
