Stephen Ward Herling

1952 -2015

Lewiston- Stephen Ward Herling 63 of Ferry Rd. Lisbon died Saturday August 29, 2015 at Central Maine Medical Center with his family at his side. He was born in Lewiston on February 25, 1952 a son of the late Edwin and Janette (Ward) Herling. He grew up in Pine Grove Park in Lisbon Falls and was educated in Lisbon where he graduated from Lisbon High School class of 1971. He then went on to graduate from Wentworth Institute in 1973. He married his high school sweetheart and true love Joni Bernier on February 9, 1973. Stephen worked for 39 years at BIW retiring as a Draftsman. In 2008, Stephen suffered an unfortunate accident leaving him with quadriplegia. Following this accident he suffered many health difficulties but never lost his positive outlook and love of life. He enjoyed living at home with his loving wife as his devoted caregiver.

He loved spending time with his family, listening to music, all animals, pruning in his yard, and collecting everything. He was a 40 year member of The Acacia Masonic Lodge #121 in Durham.

Stephen is survived by his wife of 42 years Joni of Lisbon, his three children Jessica Herling-Bailey and husband Aaron of Brunswick, Kara Murphy and husband Patrick of Minot and Scott Herling of Lisbon, his five grandchildren: Madison, McKenna, Gavin, Griffin and Tripp, his Masonic Brothers Tim Herling and wife Brenda of Durham and Doug Herling and wife Linda of Bowdoin.
