Maurice A. Sylvester

1923 - 2012

Gorham- Maurice A. Sylvester passed away to the age of 88 at his home in Gorham, Maine where he had lived for the past 5 years.

Born on November 2, 1923 in Durham, Maine, he was 1 of 4 children born to Julian and Altie (Sewall) Sylvester. His parents and his oldest brother (Julian, Jr) predeceased him in death. He graduated from Solon High School after which he served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He saw action at the Remagen Bridge and other places in Germany and was awarded the Purple Heart.

Following his discharge, he returned to Maine to marry his high school sweetheart and earn his Aeronautical Engineering Degree from the University of Maine. He spent the next 25 years working for the US. Gov. in VA and MD.

In 1975, he and his wife moved back to Maine and spent 30 years working on their farm and turning a 100-year-old building into a lovely modern home.

Due to heath reasons, they moved to the Gorham House in Gorham, Maine in 2006.

Mr. Sylvester is survived by his wife of 65 years Florence (Bussell) 4 children: Sharon (Joe) Thompson of Nashville, TN, June Barden of N. Windham, Maine, Glenn (Pat) Sylvester of Gray, Maine and Gary (Diane) of Martinsburg, WV, a grandson James (Carol) of Miami, FL, a great granddaughter Abigail of Miami, FL, a sister Kerstral Davis of Ft. Myers, FL. and a brother David Sylvester of N. Ft. Myers, FL.
