Alice Emily McIntosh Ricker, 99, of Lisbon died on Thursday, March 11, 2010, at Marshwood Center in Lewiston after a brief illness.
Alice was born in Lewiston on February 28, 1911, the daughter of Eugene C. and Methyl Estes McIntosh. The family lived in Pine Grove Park in Lisbon Falls for many years, and Alice graduated from Lisbon Falls High School in 1928.
She married Howard Ricker of Lisbon in 1929, and they operated Rickers Dairy Farm. Alice was a supportive and frugal farm wife for many years. She was a life-long member of the Lisbon Methodist Church, where she was a choir member and church school teacher. Alice was also an eighty-year member of the Grange, holding several local, county, and state offices in the Patrons of Husbandry.
Alice loved music and was an accomplished pianist. She was a piano teacher for a number of years. Alice was also very proud of her Irish heritage, tracing her family ancestry to Alexander and Margaret McIntosh of County Cork. She loved gardening and was surrounded with flowers year-round. She also enjoyed fishing at the wilderness camp she and her husband Howard built near Northeast Carry on Moosehead Lake. Alice enjoyed cooking and developing her own recipes. As a cook she worked at the Lamp Nursing Home and also for her sons business, Rickers Vending Service.
Alice is survived by three sons, Merton of Lisbon, Wayne and his wife Shirley of Lisbon, and Verne and his wife Sally of Herrin, Illinois, as well as six granddaughters, Rhonda and husband Jeffrey Irish, Kim Robichaud, Kristen and her husband Jim Glazier, Tammy and her husband Mark Hall, Sharon and her husband Jerry Zilla, and Vickie Lacognata, and one grandson, Tory. She is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren, a great-great-granddaughter, and a great-great-grandson, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Howard, who was for many years the Chief of the Lisbon Fire Department, and a brother, Burton McIntosh.
RICKER, Alice McIntosh - Visitation will be held on Saturday from 4 - 6 pm. Funeral services will be held at The Crosman Funeral Home Sunday at 1:00 Pm with Rev. Lim officiating. After the service all are invited to a reception at the Lisbon Methodist Church at 11 School St. in Lisbon Falls.
