Fernando, Trinidad. In 1972 Kenrick and his family migrated to Jersey City. Kenrick spent his teenage
years in Jersey City. He attended and graduated from Lincoln High School. The family eventually moved
to Hillside and that was his home until he enlisted in the United States Army.
The Army took Kenrick to Panama, Kentucky, and Oklahoma just to name a few places. While in the
military he served as an Honor Guard for the late President Ronald Reagan. Kenrick took pride in being a
veteran and whenever things got tough, we would chant “Army Strong” to lift his spirit. Kenrick Henry
served his country from 1979 to 1984 and received an Honorable Discharge.
After being discharged from the military, Kenrick relocated back home to New Jersey. Kenrick’s military
experience equipped him with skills necessary to become a master mechanic. He worked for Highway
Towing Co. Jersey City, N.J., for many years before eventually retiring due to health concerns.
In the early 70's Kenrick met Marie A. Barnes, whom he eventually married (January 13, 1983) and the
pair had 2 children. They welcomed their first child Jasmine into the world in 1986. Jasmine was a
daddy’s girl who adored her father. In 1989, their son Anthony was born. The father and son duo were
inseparable. Kenrick and Marie spent 37 years together. The couple endured times that were good,
trying, along with the loss of a child but their bond remained solid. Kenrick adored his grandson Kyel
Karlik Barskdale. He also raised and cared for his bonus children Shamina and Shamika Glover along with his bonus grandchildren Yasim and Ibn Hall, Yasmeen Canty, and Azzurai Rainey.
On April 22, 2020 our hero loss his courageous battle at Morristown Memorial Hospital. Our hearts are
shattered because our comedian, cook, chauffeur, and best friend departed this life. Until the very end
Kenrick remained a rock that his family could lean on. He exuded strength, courage, and wisdom from
his hospital bed. When we became weak, he would encourage us to push forward. His advice was
unmatched, and he will remain our guiding light.
