John, known to his loved ones as "Jay" or "Jay O" enjoyed simple pleasures, like quiet time with his friends and family and the occasional night out for a great meal.
His true passion has been rescuing and caring for stray cats and kittens. He personally fed, cared for, and got medical treatment for dozens of cats over the years. Seven of these kittens became part of his own family. They were his peace.
For 22 years, Jay was employed by Bamco Inc. in Middlesex, NJ as a manufacturing manager. He spent many hours participating in charity and team building activities with his co-workers, many of them have become like family.
Before that, he was a proud student and graduate of the Elizabeth public school system and, along with his grandfather, a fan of the EHS Minutemen football team.
Above all, Jay is remembered by those who knew him as a man of few, but meaningful words. He was humble, loyal, and honest in all ways. He could be trusted and counted on by everyone who needed him.
Jay was preceded in death by his mother Rosemarie Ortiz (Riccardi).
Jay leaves behind his wife and high school sweetheart of 26 years Lisa Ortiz (Schroth) along with his son and reason for everything in life, Giovanni (Gio) Ortiz. His loving sister Lisa Ortiz-Vilarelle and her husband Daniel along with their children Isabella and Alexander.
