A Legacy of Love: The Biography of Jean Mentor.
Jean Williot Mentor was born on Oct 5 1954, in the heart of Fonds-Verrettes, Haiti to the parents Charidieu Mentor and Viergina Sultan Mentor. He was the oldest of 5 children. Growing up in Haiti, Jean was no stranger to the culture and community that shaped his early years.
In his youth, Jean's path led him to attend Ecole Sainte-Croix de Fonds-Verrettes Dirigè Par Petite Soeur de Ste Therese.
Jean began his career on Haitian National Television (TNH) as a Mobile driver in 1980. During his early career he continued on as a direct Chauffer for President Jean-Claude Duvalier. Sur Le Gouvernement de Lesly Manigat where he made significant contributions and left an indelible mark on those he encountered. Jean was elected Mayor of the City of Fonds-Verrettes from February 1988 to June 1988, that same year he migrated from Fonds-Verrettes Haiti to the United States, New Jersey where he had the opportunity to build a significant life for him and his family. In 2016 he was candidate for the Mayor of the City of Fonds-Verrettes, however he lost that election because he became an American citizen. He was a pillar to the community as he tried to create so many opportunities to elevate the city’s prominence.
Despite his dedication to his community, work, and his commitment to maintaining his friendships, Jean found solace in family. He fathered Sandra Exantus and Clarens Mentor and then went on to marrying Carolle Mentor; together they had 3 children, Rebecca, Corine, and James Mentor.
If you knew Jean, you know he didn’t need a passport to experience the world around him. Orlando was his tropical paradise where he could retreat and relax and Atlantic city was Jeans personal Las Vegas where he and his best friends would gather to create memories.
