Gloria Elena Prats, 63, of Elizabeth, New Jersey, passed away peacefully in hospice care at Alameda Healthcare Center on Sunday, 3/8/2020.
She is predeceased by her mother, Esther Simbelina Varona Torres (2014) and her father Cesar Generoso Palomino Prats (2017). Gloria was also predeceased by her brother Caesar De Jesus Prats (2006).
She is survived by her only son Daniel Cintrón of Fords, NJ. She is also survived by her only grandchild Jonathan Cintrón of Nutley, NJ, as well as Daniel's fiancée Karin Palmblad, also of Fords, NJ.
Gloria was born in Bayamo, Cuba on May 26th, 1956. Her parents immigrated to the United States from Cuba in 1970 and brought both Gloria and her younger brother Cesar with them.
Gloria graduated from Battin High School in Elizabeth in 1974 and also attended Union County College from 1974-1976.
She later married Guillermo Cintrón on May 9th, 1976 at St. Patrick’s Church in Elizabeth. At the time, Gloria had become naturalized through marriage. From their marriage together, they produced one son, Daniel Cintrón.
Although she later divorced in 1989, Gloria received her certificate of naturalization on her own in 1992.
Gloria raised her son Daniel as a strong single mother and provided all that she could for him. She encouraged Dan by having him take piano lessons at a fairly young age. Gloria enjoyed listening to him play the piano very much and would always request for him to play for her. It brought her great joy to hear and witness the energy flow from his fingertips and translate into beautiful notes that created equally beautiful compositions of music.
In her spare time, Gloria enjoyed various hobbies during her younger years. In the prime of her life, she loved to go out dancing recreationally with her friends. Gloria was very experienced in dancing el merengue, la cumbia, bachata, and salsa.
Aside from dancing with her friends on a regular basis, Gloria also enjoyed taking occasional trips down to Atlantic City as a source of mini "getaways" to play the slot machines.
She enjoyed traveling, and took her son Daniel on a trip to Puerto Rico when he was a child at the age of 9. Gloria also took Dan on a vacation to Orlando at the age of 12 so that her son could experience the magic of Disney World.
Gloria was also very well known for making her famous spiked "Christmas Eggnog." This became a favorite & frequent request from Karin's family members during the holidays who always enjoyed it very much.
Gloria's life was cut short far too soon, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was a loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend to many.
We ask that all who knew her to join us in honoring her life.
