Willard G. Heuke Sr. Willard was born March 1, 1921 at Hallam, Nebraska to Margaret (Zuhlke) and Henry F. Heuke. He passed away Oct. 12,2015 at the age of 94. Willard attended Saratoga Elementary, Irving Junior High and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1939. Upon graduation he went into the Civilian Conservation Corps. He then worked for the Journal Star Printing Company as a journeyman stereotyper. His service at the Journal was interrupted by service in the U.S. Army during World War II as Gunner Sargent in the Field Artillery Unit, in Europe. He returned to the Journal Star completing his stereotyping apprenticeship and worked there until 1974, at which time the Journal Star changed their printing process. Willard was a member of the Stereotypers and Electrotypers Union #62 and served as a president of the local union and on various negotiating committees. He finished his working career as an office machine technician for Nebraska Typewriter Co. retiring in 1987. He enjoyed fishing and being outdoors, gardening, and repairing small engines. Willard married Carolyn Schmidt on Jan. 18, 1942 in Lincoln. She was the love of his life and they were married for 68 years. Survived by sons and spouses Willard Jr. and Kathy, Steven and Jean, and son Dr. Thomas and friend Susan Armstrong, grandchildren and spouses Dennis Heuke and Jeriann, Douglas Heuke, TJ Heuke and Mariella all of Lincoln, Heather Heuke and friend Kevin Nelson of Los Vegas, and great grandchildren Christian Heuke, Caroline and Rose Heuke, of Lincoln. Preceded in death by wife Carolyn, parents Henry and Margaret, brother Melvin W. Heuke and sister Geneva Delaurant. Funeral services will be held at Lincoln Memorial Funeral home. Memorials to Redeemer Lutheran Church or the Foodbank of Lincoln.
