Wallace Dean Albers was born on November 27, 1930 in Wisner, NE to Theodore and Jennie (Smidt) Albers. He married Barbara (Peters) Albers on December 14, 1957, and they raised four children together in Lincoln, NE.
Wally was an active member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church and Sertoma. He volunteered for many years with Habitat for Humanity and Meals on Wheels. After retiring from a thirty-plus year career with IBM, Wally and Barb enjoyed traveling; time in Green Valley, AZ; and visiting their children and grandchildren. Wally served in the US Army from 1952-54 at Fort Bliss, TX, where he studied radar, and then Wright Air Force Base in Spokane, WA.
Wally died on December 6, 2023. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Barbara, and brother Robert. He is survived by his children Julia Blenkush (Stephen) of Pequot Lakes, MN; Mark Albers of Mesa, AZ; Susan Albers (Mike) of Maple Grove, MN; Tom Albers of Highlands Ranch, CO; grandchildren Katie Joyce (Marty), Ted Blenkush (Savannah), Samantha Jones Albers; brother Ted Albers (Marvine) of Wisner, NE; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 1200 S 40th Street, Lincoln, on January 15 at 11:00, with visitation one hour before the service. Memorials can be directed to local chapters of the Alzheimer’s Association, the American Cancer Society, and Habitat for Humanity.
