Thomas "Tom" James Kohn, born on March 26th, 1952, was a man of remarkable journey and indomitable spirit. Graduating from Crete High School in 1971, he embarked on a path of service by joining the US Navy, where his dedication led him to become a proud member of the Navy Seabees. Assigned to Vietnam and the Philippines, he served as a steel construction worker.
Honorable discharge in 1973 marked a transition to a career at LT&T, where Tom's expertise as a lineman flourished, eventually advancing to the troubleshooting and install division. It was during this time that his colleagues affectionately dubbed him "Turk" and "Professor," a testament to his knowledge and camaraderie.
On April 14th, 1978, Tom married the love of his life, Pam, with whom he shared a union of 45 years. Together, they had two children and enjoyed traveling across the globe. Tom's passions extended beyond his professional life; he found joy in wood carving, cherished moments at Table Rock Lake, and spending time with his grandchildren in their pursuits, whether in sports or the arts. His also enjoyed singing in the choir at Hickman Presbyterian Church, reflecting his deep devotion to faith.
Tom's valiant spirit persevered until February 2nd, 2024, when he peacefully concluded his courageous battle with brain cancer at the age of 71. He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and cherished memories.
Survived by his wife, Pam Kohn, his children Ryan (Missi) Kohn and Melissa (Casey) Moormeier, and his sisters Debra Pollard, Diana (John) Boughtin, and Sharon Harms, along with sister-in-law LuAnn Damewood, Tom's presence will forever be felt in the lives of his grandchildren: Ansley Kohn, Raegan Moormeier, and Sawyer Kohn. He is also remembered fondly by numerous nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of friends.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Ann Kohn, his sister Cynthia Woodard, his brother-in-law Daniel Damewood, and his parents-in-law Lloyd and Elizabeth Damewood.
A visitation to honor Tom's life will be held on Thursday, February 8, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 S 14th St., Lincoln, NE 68512. A celebration of his life will take place on Friday, February 9, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Hickman Presbyterian Church, 300 E 3rd St., Hickman, NE 68372.
