Susan Marie Olson, age 65, of Lincoln, passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 with her Husband and Daughter at her side. Sue was born December 19, 1957, to Larry and Alice Cramer in Denver, Colorado. They later moved to the Arborville, Nebraska area where she attended Polk Elementary school before moving to Stromsburg, NE to be closer to family. She participated in 4-H while growing up and loved to draw. They were able to join in the yearly Celebration at Christmas with the Carlson family. She enjoyed coming together to catch up and enjoy the Swedish traditional foods. While attending Stromsburg schools she met her future husband, Roger Olson. Her first date with Roger was April 4th, 1974. She always joked that he never failed to celebrate their first date with flowers every year but managed to miss wedding anniversaries. She graduated Stromsburg High school in 1976. She then attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where she joined the sorority Phi Mu and later became an alumni member.
After graduating college, she married her high school sweetheart Roger Olson on June 7, 1980. They moved to Beatrice, NE and in December 1982, their only daughter Jessica was born. Shortly after December 1984, they moved to Council Grove, KS but they were still strong Husker Fans at heart. They felt pulled back to Lincoln, NE in 1989 where Sue bought and operated her own Interior Design business.
In 1992, Jessica auditioned to dance in the Nutcracker where Sue volunteered for the Boutique to help earn proceeds to support the Lincoln Midwest Ballet Company. She became Co-Chair of the boutique with her friend Debra Kimberly. They continued helping make the boutique a success for 30 years. Sue made a tradition with her daughter that every year they would go shopping on Dec 26th to find those unique Nutcrackers to add to their collection at home. She also was a big part of Beta Sigma Phi group and went on to help with the Phi Mu chapter redecorate the house. Years later, she was able to help them relocate and design the new building in which the chapter currently lives on 16th Street in Lincoln, NE. She transitioned to working for the state in 2011 where she was an administrative assistant for probation. She moved to the Board of Parole as the Statewide Operations Manager in 2016.
Sue purchased C Middleton Antiques in 2005 where she was able to share her love of Antiques with her daughter. She always loved Mickey Mouse and shared that joy with Jessica as well. She was finally able to go to Disney for her first time in 2005. It was everything she could imagine and more.
Sue’s grandchildren came into her life in 2000 and 2009. They were always a big part of her life. She was always willing to help get them to and from school and to Wednesday night Church events. Sue and Roger were a giant support to them when starting Cub Scouts and then later when transitioning to Boy Scouts. Sue would help run the Pine Wood Derby every year for all the boys in our Den, even volunteering to be a Den Leader. She would attend any event the boys had for Band and Trap activities as well.
Surviving Sue are her loving husband of 43 years, Roger Olson; her daughter Jessica (Jared) Broadfoot; and her two grandchildren, Caine and Ciptyn. She is also survived by numerous extended relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Larry, and Alice Cramer.
