Steve leaves behind his loving wife Jeanette, of 50 years. They married in 1970 on Long Beach Naval Station, California. Steve served his country with honor in the United States Navy for four years with a tour in Vietnam on the U.S.S. Blue. Upon his return, Steve and Jeanette made Colorado Springs, Colorado and First Christian Church their home for well over 30 years. Recently, health challenges and a desire to be closer to their children and grandchildren brought them back to Nebraska.
Steve pursued many interests and most included the outdoors. He loved hunting, shooting and fishing. He also had a passion for Ducks Unlimited. He loved sharing his outdoor love with others and never knew a stranger for longer than a couple of minutes.
Steve also leaves behind his daughter, Karen Oppliger of Overland Park, Kansas; his son, Douglas Walgren (spouse Donna) of Utica, Nebraska; the light of his later life, his four grandchildren: Amelia Jo, Abigaile Irene, Olivia Jane and Grayson Wayne; as well as many, many other treasured family members and friends.
“The loss is immeasurable but so is the love left behind.”
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations can be made in Steve’s name to the Wounded Warriors Project via support.woundedwarriorproject.org.
