Please know how sincerely sorry I am for your loss. Though I didn’t know Steve personally, through you I feel  as if I did. 

May the comfort of your family bring you joy and comfort as you remember a life well lived. He was a devoted husband and father.

My deepest condolences during this time of loss.  My dad hired Steve, and then, 33 years later, I was working for this man.

My time at Goodyear spring-boarded me to where I am at today in Basel, Switzerland.

He was a great manager and a friend.  He will be missed.

Steve was a fierce advocate for those he cared for, including my mother, Kitty Kirby.  Mom worked for Steve at Goodyear, and held him in the highest regard:  When she struggled with cancer, he was unfailingly supportive of her, of our family. When there was reason to celebrate, he shared her joy. Steve will always hold a special place in our hearts; his genuine regard for her well-being will never be forgotten.

I'm not aware of anyone who didn't enjoy talking to Steve.  Calling him to get some answers or help was always a pleasant experience. Supportive and helpful always. Wishing nothing but God's grace for his family.

Myself and a friend were going to the 2009 Kansas State/Nebraska game with a trip to the Big 12 Championship on the line. Barb caught wind of this and told us to go to visit her brother's tailgate. We were very unsure about how that would go. Two college kids hanging out with a brother of my dad's coworker just screams awkwardness.

Anyway, we decided to give it a shot. Only to be given a shot (of Captain) right when we showed up to the tailgate. Steve blew my friend and me away with his kindness, hospitality, and humility (we all knew Kansas State was going to lose, but he kept saying he had his doubts about the Huskers.) We sat and talked football and life for hours before the game. K-State, of course, lost, and we drove home.

Have you ever been on a car ride with another person and a topic of conversation keeps coming up over and over, but neither of you gets tired of talking about it? That's how my friend and I felt about Steve's hospitality and outlook on life. We just couldn't stop talking about it.  Steve was a wonderful man with a wonderful family. He will be missed. 

I will always remember Steve as one of the most positive, dependable people that I have met. He helped and supported me throughout my career at Goodyear and I will always have great memories of both our times at work and off work...Golfing and at Husker games.

So sorry about Steve's passing. I didn't know Steve as well, although I worked at Goodyear too. But I did know his father, Dan Pope, and enjoyed the stories Dan told of his service in WWII on a ship in the Pacific. That ship included at least several of the Sullivan brothers (5), all of whom were lost when their cruiser was sunk in the Solomon Islands. As I recall, those brothers were transferred to a different ship from that which Dan served on.

Steve was a bowler in the Shrine League and our team, Rimel & Associates.  Even though he used the wrong hand to bowl or golf with us  he was a solid player and a good friend of all the team members.   We had a lot of laughs together in both sports.  I always told him he was the best 300 yard tee shot golfer around - 50 yards down the fairway and 250 yards to the left!!  And once on every 18 holes we would find time to tell Steve to look up in the sky -IT'S THE GOODRICH BLIMP!!  I think he chased all of us with his 5 iron!!!  A good man and a good friend.  RIP Steve. 

Steve was a father figure in my life and I loved him so much. I’ve known him since 1986, when Stacy and I became lifelong friends. I had hoped to see him again before this day came. A wonderful man, dedicated father and loving family man. This loss is painful, but I know he lives on through our memories and is in heaven. My love to Stacy and the entire family. May the Peace of the Lord be with you and hold you all during this difficult time. 

So sorry to hear about Steve. I worked with Steve at Goodyear Lincoln for many years. I enjoyed his friendship. 

My Mom, Bonnie Venhaus worked with Steve until she retired and I worked with him as well.. He was a wonderful person. My deepest sympathy's to your family..   Jane Bomberger
