Sandra Kay Bruce, 57, of Lincoln, passed away on Thursday, September 2, 2021. Sandra was born September 3, 1963 to James and Eva (Hardin) Wenzl. Sandra is survived by her loving husband of 6 years, Terry Bruce; two daughters, Emily Barker and Laura Barker; father, James Wenzl; siblings, Mike Wenzl, Ann (Larry) Jablonski, Theresa (Jeff) Svoboda; 5 nieces, 5 nephews, many relatives and friends. Sandra is preceded in death by her mother Eva (Hardin) Wenzl; sister, Patti Wenzl.
Sandra was a graduate of Lincoln Northeast High School and earned her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. Her career as an elementary school teacher spanned thirty-three years, beginning at St. Joseph’s Catholic School, and then with the Lincoln Public Schools: Saratoga, Hill and Lakeview schools. Sandra loved teaching and learning and was a most popular, fun teacher. Her commitment and dedication to those she served was evident to all. Sandra was most proud of her daughters, Emily and Laura, who were the center of her life. She spoke of how honored she was to be their mom. Sandra loved all outdoor adventures with Terry including their wedding at an Alaskan waterfall, exploring glaciers, kayaking, motorcycle rides, and hiking through Colorado. Sandra collected antique jewelry and enjoyed learning its history. She loved Husker volleyball and football. Her dogs, Rosie and Maggie, meant the world to her. Sandra will best be remembered for her fun-loving personality, sense of humor, kind heart, and love and devotion to her husband, daughters, and family.
A visitation for Sandra will be held Tuesday, September 7, 2021 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 S 14th St., Lincoln, NE 68512. A celebration of life will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. Masks are required indoors. For more information, go to www.lincolnfh.com.
