Ruth worked for the family convenience store business. She worked in the office at the Seward location for many years.
Ruth loved gardening, flowers, swimming, shopping, playing the piano, and most of all being a grandma and great-grandma. She also collected Precious Moments Dolls and has shared them with the grandchildren. Ruth loved going to the grandchildren’s sporting events. She very rarely missed an event. Each grandchild would get a special alone time during summer vacation. They would do special activities which always included shopping. The grandchildren would receive much of their back to school clothes on these trips. Ruth loved clothes and accessories and would dress in coordinated outfits each and every day. Until the end she was wearing her best. We sent her away in her pink silk pajamas, and Nedra sent one of her favorite outfits to send her off in.
Arden, the grandson that lived with her, shared some happy memories. He says all of the holiday gatherings were everything a child could hope for. For birthdays and holidays she would bake specialized cakes. If you loved a certain thing she would bake your cake in that design. She pampered each of us on our special days. Arden remembers jumping off a very high ledge and he broke his foot in 3 places. He had never heard her so angry and she may have cussed a little. She didn't yell much and when things were in a tizzy she would say, "this is a mell of a hess." Arden always felt secure knowing when he came home from somewhere she would always be there for him. He feels the time went by too quickly with Grandma and he will miss her greatly.
Michael, "the only child" has many memories. Michael was born after some of his siblings were close to being out of the nest. He remembers mom always had family come first. Traveling to see family was always a priority. Trips were made to Denver, Colorado, Franklin, Wayne, and Holdrege, Nebraska, Wamego and Gaylord, Kansas to spend time with relatives and friends. And finally, all of us remembered the trips to Manhattan, Kansas to watch our beloved Kansas State Wildcats play football. Win or lose our family was in the stands cheering them on. Michael being the "only child" got to go to the finer restaurants and traveled extensively to wonders around the U.S. A. All of the family remembers going to Misty's Restaurant in Lincoln. This was mom's favorite restaurant. We spent many of mom's later birthdays there and had a large family group at each and every one of the celebrations.
Ruth's funeral will be on Friday April 18th at Lincoln Memorial Funeral home chapel at 2:00 in the afternoon. The service will be officiated by Rev.Shelby A.H. Moock of FCUCC Church in Hastings. There will be a reception following the service with desserts and coffee. 6800 South 14th Lincoln, NE.
The family wishes to thank all of you who have provided love and support over the years.
