Russell G. Pickel age 95 of Lincoln died on Friday, May 20, 2016 in Lincoln at Eastmont Towers. He was born on October 3, 1920 on the family homestead to Robert and Leda (Borgman) Pickel, Jr. He attended grade school at District 38 and graduated from Pleasant Dale High School in 1938. Russell married Grace Jakoubek on December 22, 1942 in the Presbyterian Parsonage at Raymond, Nebraska. Following the wedding they boarded a bus to visit friends in Arkansas. He farmed near Valparaiso, Raymond and Emerald. The highlight of Russell’s life was farming with his son Larry. Russell served on the Valparaiso Volunteer Fire Department, the Raymond and Agnew Cooperative Boards. Grace and Russell volunteered for Food Net for many years. He was a member of St. Paul Methodist Church in Lincoln. Russell is survived by Grace his wife of 73 years; daughter, Kay (Roger) Sieck; son, Larry (Anne) Pickel; granddaughter, Kimberly (David) Schaaf; one great-granddaughter, Kendall Schaaf; brother, Rolland (Sheralee) Pickel; sisters-in-law, LaVonne Pickel; Erma Nord; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents, brothers, Richard and Robert, sister, Helen Jochim, sister-in-law, Arlene Pickel, brothers-in-law, Roland Jochim, and Ivan Nord. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 23, 2016 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at 12:30 pm at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. Interment will be in Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
