Robert M De Witt, age 85, of Lincoln, passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2022. Robert was born November 20, 1936 to Elmer and Veronica De Witt. Bob is survived by his 8 loving children, Jan (Rawley) Tomes, Patty (Steve) Hoops, Tony (Deb) De Witt, Bob De Witt, Chris (Jon Frank) Voss, Christine Gabig-Prebyl, Mary Jo Brolhorst, Jacob (Lacey) Gabig; Siblings, Donna Johnson, Jane (Pete) Anderson, James (Leann) De Witt, Sandra De Witt; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Bob remembered growing up and working hard on the family farm in Iowa and South Dakota along with his parents and siblings. He especially enjoyed driving the John Deere tractor. His proudest moment was when he held his first born daughter Jan. He felt it an accomplishment in his early years as a welder “walking the high iron” while helping to build the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. After moving to Lincoln he worked as a truck driver, over the road for many years for Seal Rite Windows, then local routes with Graves Trucking Company. He was always a hard worker.
Bob had many close friends he liked spending time with. He liked comedy and made sure he watched “The Red Skelton Show” and “Carol Burnett” and liked reading the comics. He enjoyed black powder competition rendezvous, & shooting targets. He liked to hunt prairie dogs with brother Jim. He also enjoyed watching football games, country music and car shows. After retirement he enjoyed restoring cars including a ‘55 Ford Crown Victoria, a “54 Mercury and a ‘58 Ford Ranchero. He liked to cruise with Diane, in the car or on the motorcyle. He enjoyed spending time with family and attending the grandkids sports games. He liked to read & watch TV, especially westerns, and he was an avid World War 2 history buff with many books on the subject. He also liked to put together model cars & airplanes. He also very much enjoyed seeing and taking walks with his dog “Lexie,” his faithful companion.
A visitation for Bob will be held Sunday, July 31, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 S 14th St., Lincoln, NE 68512. A celebration of life will be 10:00 am Monday, August 1, 2022 at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Lincoln Memorial Park. For more information go to www.lincolnfh.com.
