Opal M. Wulf, 84, widow of Henry W. Wulf, passed away on 10/6/2015. She found the love of cooking working at her mother’s café, The Bright Spot, as a youth. In 1963, she entered the insurance business working for the McClellan Agency as office manager for many years and achieved several designations in the industry. In 1975, she and her daughter, Karen, started Insurance Marketplace, Inc., where she was president for 30 years. Opal retired from the business in 2008. Opal was actively involved in several garden societies, most notably, the Lincoln Iris Society. She was a life member and served as regional vice president, president, judge, show coordinator, and she and Henry hosted a national garden tour and many local tours. She was active in hybridizing irises and introduced several varieties. She and Henry also hosted international visitors in conjunction with Mayor’s Committee for International Friendship, and their acreage was a release site for Wildlife Rescue Team. They also enjoyed hosting the extended family each Thanksgiving. Opal’s hobbies, besides gardening, were reading, crocheting, cooking, and painting. She was a member of Southwood Lutheran Church. She is survived by children Robert (Jane) Rech of Ill, and Karen (Phil) Rooney of Lincoln, Ne; granddaughter, Allyssa Brown of Ill, and grandson Lucas Brown (currently attending the US Airforce Academy); sisters Julie Taylor and Jeannie Salazar; sister-in-laws Margaret Jones and Helen Williams; numerous nieces and nephews; and family friend, Jan Preston, Preceded in death by her parents, husband Henry, son Kenneth Wulf, and sister Phyllis. The family would like to thank everyone at the Independence House at Mandarin for the love, care, and friendship they gave to Opal and Us. Memorial services are pending.
