Odessa Parson, 87 of Lincoln, passed from this life to her reward, July 18th 2014. Odessa Parson was born May 3, 1927, to the proud parents of Annie and Jessie Haggans in Cleveland, MS. She was sixth child of 12 siblings. She grew up in Clarksdale Mississippi attending the public school system there. At an early age she professed a belief in Jesus Christ and was active in church for all of her life. In September of 1975, she relocated to Lincoln, Nebraska with her children. Shortly thereafter she united with the Mr. Zion Baptist church where she met and married Bro. Rudolph Parson for over 20 years. Faithful until death describes her commitment to Christ and to her church family. As a member of the Mt Zion Baptist Church for well over 30 years she served in various capacities namely her favorite ministry the ushers board. Sis Parson greeted everyone at the door with a smile. She shared her faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with everyone she came in contact with as well as her love for her church and for her pastor. Sis Parson was one with a servants heart with a sweet spirit. In her leisure time when she enjoyed planting flowers , cooking for her friends and family. She loved meeting new people and visiting with her friends and with her family. Sis Parson had a fond love for the hymns of the church as they described her daily desire to walk closely with the lord. She was preceded in death by her children. Diane Haggan and Floyd Jones; grandson, Anthony Haggan, and her parents Annie and Jessie Haggan, and 11 sisters. She had twenty-one grandchildren, and eighteen great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. She leaves to cherish fond memories; daughters; Annie Greer and Debra Jackson, Lincoln, Nebraska, sons Sylvester Jones (Vivian) Troy Jones (Phillis), Marvel Jones; Lincoln Nebraska, Johnny Jones(Michelle) Arizona, brother in law Willie Matthews; Clarksdale, MS. A celebration of life will be held at Mt Zion Baptist Church, Saturday July 26th at 1 p.m. 3301 North 56th Street. Officiated by the Rev. Dr. Michael Combs. Visitation will be on Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the Parson family at 3320 N. 73rd Street, Lincoln, NE 68207.
