Mitchel L Miller, age 63, of Lincoln, Nebraska passed away in the ICU unit at Bryan West on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 surrounded by family and friends. He was born in Osceola, Nebraska on April 20, 1960 to William (Bill) Miller and Anne Montag. He grew up in Nebraska City and graduated from high school there. Mitch enjoyed sports and played football in high school. He worked a variety of jobs during high school, learning many different trades. After high school he began working on the railroad for several years. He attempted college but found it wasn't his passion, so he joined the Air Force on a delayed program. In the summer of 1982, he was involved in a diving/swimming accident that left him paralyzed from mid-chest down. After months of rehab in a few different facilities he attended classes at UNL and lived in the dorms. There he met many of his lifelong friends.
After college he settled in Lincoln and had the opportunity to buy a boat shop which he re-named Grandpa's Marine. Later he worked as a freight broker, insurance salesman, and sold Action Trackchairs for people with disabilities, which he really enjoyed. The rest of his working years involved several self-employed jobs.
During Mitch's senior year of high school he began dating Lori, who later became his wife in 1984. In 1991 their son Travis was born. Mitch and Travis enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, and working on different projects together. As a family, the three of them enjoyed many wonderful trips to various places. He always looked forward to summer family camping trips with his brother, sister, and their families. Along with his hobbies, Mitch was an advocate for people with disabilities. He served on the League of Human Dignity board of directors for several years. He enjoyed being a very active member of the Lion's Club in Lincoln. Later in Mitch's life he re-established his relationship with Christ through a life coach and attending bible studies.
Throughout Mitch's life he overcame many physical barriers and medical challenges. He did not let anything hold him back from doing what he loved. He did not let the wheelchair stop him from living life to its fullest. He knew no strangers and he knew a little bit about everything. He always had a positive outlook, with the biggest and most contagious smile, along with a fountain of patience.
Preceded in death by his father Bill, father-in-law Garry Ailes, grandparents, along with many cousins and friends.
Survived by his wife Lori, son Travis (Megan), grandsons Broderick and Donovan, mother Anne, brother Eric (Janell), their children Jacob and Kendra, sister Becky (Rick) Spotanski, their children Marisa, Marcus, and Mollie, mother-in-law Joan Ailes, brother-in-law Dave Ailes, his children Drew (Amanda) and Audree (Bobby) Henry, and brother-in-law Doug (Kaleen) Ailes, their children Tatum (Jeremy) Anderson, Gabi (Devin) Dunson, and Cal (Samantha) Thompson.
