Michelle Stortz was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. She had a smile that lit up every room and a laugh that you could hear from a mile away. She passed unexpectedly at home on September 10, 2022 at the age of 55 in Olathe, Kansas.
Born on May 17, 1967, she was the youngest child of Vi and Ron Hansen. She grew up alongside her siblings Kim and Dave in Lincoln, Nebraska. After graduating from Lincoln Southeast, Michelle went on to pursue a bachelor of education degree at the University of Nebraska. It was during this time that she met her husband, Tim Stortz. She and Tim worked poolside together at Hillcrest Country Club, and pool days in the summer continued to be their favorite over the years. The two moved to Olathe and had two kids who meant the world to her, Chandler and Paige.
It was in Olathe that she received a Master’s Degree from Mid-America Nazarene University and taught for over thirty years. During her time teaching, she made an immense impact on her students and those she worked alongside. Her classroom was always full of laughs and love.
Michelle meant something special to every person she met at each stage in her life. If you knew her, you loved her. She had a kind heart, was incredibly welcoming and just an absolute ray of light.
Family and friends meant the world to her. Family game nights. Seeing live music with Tim. Visits with her mom and siblings. Dinners with her loving friends. End-of-year get-togethers with Regency Place teachers who became best friends. These moments with the people she loved most brought so much joy to her throughout her life.
She is survived by her loving husband Tim (Olathe), mother Vi Hansen (Lincoln), her daughter Paige (Kansas City, Missouri), son Chandler and his wife Alyson (Olathe), siblings, Kim (Bill) Booth (Niskayuna, New York) and Dave (Andrea) Hansen (Newport, Rhode Island), father-in-law Herb Stortz (Olathe) and sister-in-law Deb (Dave) Waddell (Olathe).
She was preceded in death by her father Ron Hansen and mother-in-law Meryl Stortz.
