Mr Morton (never called him Mick) had a zest for life.   And I will always remember his walk.    With a purpose and at a pace that demonstrated his determination.   I still remember him telling me that he always finds money when he walks because he leans forward and sees the ground.  Haha. 

My older brother Bob and I ran for him.   Oddly some ten years apart we anchored the mile relay.    Coach Morton explains that if I beat Fairbury then we win the meet.    He was a great motivator.   It sent shivers thru me as my brother had several times told me about Mick pulling him aside and telling Bob that Crete would win if Bob beat Seward.  

Mick could motivate.    He had zest and was vulnerable at a time when that was rare with men and teachers.   I always admired him.     And yes  Crete won those two meets 10 years apart.   Because of Coach Morton.

I did not have Mr. Morton as a teacher but did know Mr. and Mrs. Morton from church activities and had the occasional babysitting job for them when they lived about a block from our house when the boys were little. My sisters Sarah and Anne may also have babysat.  I had a fondness Joyce and Mick (I NEVER called them by their first names) as well as the children. My sincere sympathy and condolences go out to all the family.

May your soul rest in peace Mr Morton.  You put up with a lot in chemistry class and turned a blind eye to some of the “projects “ we did! You showed such patience when explaining and working with students using the periodic table. Thanks for all the time you spent at Crete High School, you were a treasure.

My deepest sympathy to Mr. Morton’s family.  He was a favorite teacher of mine. He was fair and held the highest expectations of his students and he always asked how things were going.   So very glad he was a part of my Crete High School life.  May the memories you have sustain you through this sad time.

I was in Mr. Morton's first science classes out of NWU  inJr. High School. He was one of my coaches and we worked together as Life Guards at the swimming pool. such great memories we have  have from growing up in Crete and knowing the people who made our life better. My Deepest Condolences to you all..  It was an honor having him as my High School Track Coach. I will always remember the strength and positivity he passed onto me my Senior year at State Track Meet in 1982 when I placed 3rd in state.  R.I.P Coach Morton.

My thoughts are with Zane, Todd and Julie as they grieve the loss of their father. Mr. Morton was a motivator and disciplinarian on the field and an easy guy to like and respect in the classroom during high school.  He was always supportive and kind to me and I have good memories of him as a coach, teacher and the Dad of one of my best friends. Rest easy, Mick.
