Michael Ray Bockelman

Michael Ray Bockelman passed away at home on July 29th after a months long battle with cancer. Born January 8th 1952 in Fairbury Nebraska to William and Ella Bockelmann, Mike is survived by his loving wife of nearly 32 years Lynn Bockelman, their son Jordan Bockelman, son from a previous marriage Chadwick Bockelman, sister Lois Vorderstrasse, sister in law Renate Bockelman, numerous nieces and nephews and the newest member of the Bockelman family, his only grandchild John William Bockelman.

Upon graduating from Fairbury High School in 1970, Mike was swept up into the blossoming and exciting world of computer programming. Upon graduating from the Lincoln School of Commerce in 1972 he went on to work at First National Bank of Lincoln as a computer operator. He remained there until moving on to working for EDS (Electronic Data Systems) in 1980 where he remained in a supervisory position until 1990. Then he accepted a job as a systems analyst/programmer at FirstTier Bank in Lincoln. In 1995 Mike accepted a new job doing the same type of work with People’s Natural Gas, at which he stayed for less than a year. A better opportunity appeared doing technical support work at a company called Matrixx Marketing in June of 1996. He retired from this company (eventually renamed to Convergys Corporation) in December of 2013. After 40 plus consecutive years of being employed Mike was ready for some well earned rest and relaxation. He spent his retirement reading and doing puzzles, taking care of the house and yard, and spending time with family.

He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, and friend. No memorial service is planned at this time, and his wife Lynn would prefer all condolences to be sent either to her or to her son Jordan.
