She is preceded in death by her parents Henry Slote and Thelma Merle Parrish Slote, along with her husband, Robert John Hoffman.
All of Mary and Robert’s immediate family members have preceded her passing.
Mary grew up in Cortland, Nebraska, along with her brother Donald Slote, and twin sisters, Dorothy Miller and Doris Howard.
As an adult she moved to Lincoln where she and Robert married and started their family. Together they had 11 children. Robert passed away in 1963 and Mary proceeded to raise her children on her own.
Knowing the value of an education, Mary went back to school to obtain her GED diploma. She was employed by the State of Nebraska in the Department of Vital Statistics until her retirement.
Mary was preceded in death by daughters, Judith Phillips and Patricia Varga, sons Kenneth Hoffman and Harold Hoffman, and sons-in-law Wayne Phillips and Roger Vest.
Mary is survived by her children, Duane (Ruth) Hoffman, Chico, TX, Romaine (Charles) Chiarelli, Kerrville, TX, Jenelle (Alan) Duffy, Lincoln, NE, Janet (Larry) Madison, Boyds, MD, Marla (Thomas) Mumgaard, Papillion, NE, Merrilee (Mark) Ediger, Smyrna, GA, Daryl (Teresa) Hoffman, Montgomery, AL, and daughter-in-law Joyce Hoffman, Grand Island, NE.
Mary was the happiest when her children were all together, and was very proud of her 32 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
The Hoffman family sincerely thanks Pemberly Place Senior Living staff for the great care of our mother during her extended stay.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 21, 2021, 6:00-7:00pm, at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. 6800 S. 14th St, Lincoln, NE. Funeral Service will be held Thursday, April 22, 2021, 10:00am, at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Lincoln Memorial Park. 6700 S. 14th St, Lincoln, NE.
The Funeral Service will be livestreamed for those who are unable to attend in person. On the day of the service, please follow the livestream link below when the service begins, to join the family virtually.
