Markus K. O’Brien, 48, of Lincoln, passed away unexpectedly at home on Friday, July 17. He was born at Fort Dix, in New Jersey. He spent his childhood in many locations, such as Florida, South Carolina, Hawaii, and Colorado, as his parents served in the US Air Force. Shortly after graduating from Hebron High School in 1984, he found employment with Pony Express for a short period before beginning his lengthy career with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services, where he rose to the rank of Lieutenant. After a brief time as a parole officer, Mark was forced to retire a few years ago due to failing health. Despite his health challenges, Mark was an active member of TCOPS International since 2007, and served on the Board of Directors since 2008. Mark leaves behind his parents, Gary and Sharon (O'Brien) Young, sister, Loretta Young (Kelly), all of Lincoln, brother Gary Young (Linda), Crete, niece Jessica Young, Crete, nephew, Daniel Young, Lincoln, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends he considered family. Surviving Mark is also Patrick Callahan and Julie Marin, his Monterey, CA family, former spouse, Nichole Hart, and his beloved dog, Jericho. Mark was preceded in death by his grandparents and his cousin, Janelle. Services will be held at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 22, at 10:00 a.m. Visitation at the funeral home will be held Tuesday, July 21, from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m., with family receiving relatives and friends from 6-8. Mark’s favorite football team was the New Orleans Saints. Guests are encouraged to wear the team’s colors of gold and black, or Mark’s other favorite color, green. A luncheon reception in Mark’s honor will follow the service. Memorials can be made to the family for a later designation.
