Marilynn “Joyce” Morton passed away peacefully on January 18, 2024. She was born March 22, 1939 in Dunning, NE to Albert and Beatrice Miller.
Joyce grew up in Anchorage, Alaska after her father moved the family in 1945. She graduated from Anchorage High School and returned to Lincoln, Nebraska shortly after graduation. Joyce worked in Lincoln until she met the love of her life Micheal “Mick” Morton. They married in 1957 and moved to Crete, NE where she worked for Crete State Bank and Farmland Foods. Joyce was dedicated to her family and work community. Joyce could be found at all sporting, choir and band events for her children and Mick.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents Albert and Beatrice Miller, and her brothers Wendyl, Glenn and Steve Miller.
Micheal "Mick" Morton
Micheal “Mick” Morton passed away peacefully on January 21, 2024. He was born August 22, 1935 in Bassett, NE to Matthew and Agnes Knapp Morton.
Mick grew up in Bassett, Nebraska and graduated from Rock County High School in 1954. He was a dedicated athlete and went on to attend Nebraska Wesleyan University where he played football and was on the track and field team. Mick graduated from Wesleyan with his teaching certificate. While in Lincoln, Mick met and married the love of his life Marilynn Joyce Morton. They married in 1957 and moved to Crete, Nebraska where Mick taught high school Chemistry and Sciences for 33 years. Mick was a Track and Field coach for most of those 33 years as well as a Football coach for all ages. Mick was dedicated to his students and athletes and never met one he didn’t like. Mick was active in Sertoma and the community. He loved woodworking and going to auctions to find more items to fix up.
Mick was preceded in death by his parents Matthew and Agnes Morton, his brother Butch Morton, Sister JoAnn Kuehler and his wife Joyce Morton.
Joyce and Mick are survived by their 3 children Zane (Karen) Morton of Hermann, MO, Todd (Sara) Morton of Eagle, NE and Julie Steinmeyer of Waverly, NE and their grandchildren and great grandchildren.
