M. Jane Hunzeker

Jane was born on March 22, 1951 in Lincoln, NE to Jim and Vera Ferris. She graduated from the University of Nebraska with a degree in Dental Hygiene in 1973. She worked for twenty years as a dental hygienist but found her true passion as a caregiver for individuals with developmental disabilities.

Jane was married to her husband, Eldon, for 36 years. The longevity and strength of their relationship focused on always putting each other first. As the years went by, Jane moved with Eldon to support him on his career path as a farmer and later as a maintenance technician at 3M. They were each other’s best friend and soul mates.Just as Jane knew the importance of her marriage, she modeled her selflessness for her daughters and anyone who grew to know her. She could often be found crocheting an afghan or something special for someone who was special to her. She placed a great deal of importance by getting to know those who came into her life well and showing them how much she cared for them. Whenever she gave gifts, she considered the recipient and selected things she thought would be meaningful to them to show how much they meant to her. Jane became an advocate in her life as well. Upon the birth of her daughter, Anna, she understood how important parents are for the well-being of their children. She advocated tirelessly to ensure Anna has a good life that is meaningful to her. She worked to surround Anna with family, supports, and caregivers who value Anna as much as she did. Beyond her earthly existence, Jane has ensured that Anna will be cared for and valued all her life.

Jane is survived by her husband, Eldon Paul Hunzeker of Wahoo, NE; sister and brother-in-law, Jill and John Berry of Lincoln, NE; daughter and son-in-law, Marla Fischer-Lempke and Jeff Lempke of Lincoln, NE; daughter, Anna Fischer of Wahoo, NE; step-daughter and son-in-law, Kari and Mike Preclik of the Czech Republic; step-son and daughter-in-law, Nathan and Lisy Hunzeker of Altavista, VA; step-son and daughter-in law, Eric and Amberly Hunzeker of Lincoln, NE; step-son and daughter-in law, Aaron and Melinda Hunzeker of Humboldt, NE; grandsons: Joel Svoboda, Bryant Hunzeker, Logan Hunzeker, Kiffen Hunzeker, August Lempke, Landry Hunzeker, Andrew Hunzeker, and Zachary Hunzeker; granddaughters: Claire Svoboda, Camille Svoboda, Arianna Lempke, and Dasha Hunzeker, cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Vera Ferris; her sister, Julie Severin; and her grandson, Devon Hunzeker.

A memorial will take place on Thursday, August 16 at 10:00 a.m. at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. Graveside services will immediately follow and a luncheon will be held at the IBEW Local 265. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jane’s life by wearing brightly colored attire to the services. Memorials to be directed to the care of the family for later designation.
