Loraine Dotson Carlson, Born July 21, 1922 to Florence Clay Nelson and William Nelson in Waverly, NE. Loraine passed into the arms of our Lord peacefully at The Aviva-Woodlands Memory Care in Lincoln at the age of 99.
Living on a farm, Loraine attended Shakespeare one room country school and later, moved with family to Ceresco, NE. Siblings were Dwight and Beverly.
In Ceresco, Loraine attended high school, met, and fell in love with Loren Dotson. She taught school after graduation but soon eloped with Loren in 1941. They moved to Venice, California and both worked at Douglas Aircraft until Loren joined the Army and was set to Italy during WWII. After the war, the couple returned to Ceresco and opened a Café. Loren soon trained in carpentry and Loraine returned to teaching.
In 1955, then with three children, moved to Lincoln. They attended they covenant church where Loraine and family became lifelong friends with the Lindburg family.
Loraine taught third grade at Riley School for many years and also graduated from the University of Nebraska in her spare time. After Loren’s death, Loraine married Roy Carlson.
Loraine loved family, teaching, painting, traveling, and football. She also loved her god and attended Saint Mark’s United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her sons, Dr. Larry (Holly) Dotson, Dr. Randall (Joni) Dotson; step-children, Nancy Carlson and Diane O’Conner; grandchildren, Matthew, Andrew (Jennifer), Jennifer (Matthew), Jill (Peter), Kristopher (Ashley), Jeffery, Kyle, Korey and 12 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by husbands, Loren and Roy; daughter, Karen (Tom); siblings, Dwight and Beverly and step-son, Bryce Carlson.
A Funeral Service will be held 2pm Saturday, May 14, 2022 at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home 6800 S. 14th Street, Lincoln. Memorials are suggested to The Fellowship of Christian Athletes fca.org. Condolences to www.lincolnfh.com.
