Karen Louise Lowe, beloved wife and mother passed peacefully on April 3rd 2025, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 68. She was born on December 12th, in 1956 to Marvin and Murrilla Giittinger in Nebraska City where she grew up and graduated from Nebraska City Lourdes High School in 1975. In 1980, she married Clark Lowe and together they raised seven children. She will be fondly remembered for the deep love she held for her family and her kind and generous spirit.
Karen had a passion for Husker volleyball and always enjoyed staying active. In recent years, she spent most of her free time tending to her gardens, watching the bees and butterflies or doing puzzles at the dining room table. She took great pride in her pollinator garden, eagerly anticipating the spring blooms in recent weeks. She loved to cook and gather all of her family together for holiday meals and celebrations, never once missing someone's birthday. One of her favorite things to do was to bake, as she always had a sweet tooth. Each year around Christmas she made tons of cookies and candy for her children’s families to take home. Karen was a selfless woman who gave everything for the happiness of her family, asking for little in return. The greatest joy in her life was being surrounded by the laughter of her children and grandchildren.
During her lifetime, when not at home with small children, Karen worked mainly in the food service industry, elevating to management at several establishments until retiring in 2021, which allowed her all of the free time to enjoy life’s simple pleasures. She touched many with her kind heart throughout her life, but her proudest accomplishment was raising the family she leaves behind.
Left to cherish Karen’s memory are her loving husband Clark, her children Brian (Amy), Jeremy (Hallie), Andrew (Megan), Shelley Haxton (Rick), Michael (Ashley), Matthew (Dani) and James (Ilsa), 19 grandchildren, her parents and 5 siblings.
A celebration of Karen’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 11 at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 S. 14th St., Lincoln, NE, with a reception to follow. Those that cannot attend but wish to make a contribution in Karen’s memory are encouraged to help us raise a fund to honor her passion for gardening and nature by helping us plant a pollinator habitat in her name.
