Julia (Judy) Irene (Wood) Ehlers, 84, of Lincoln, Nebraska died on December 6, 2018. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and nurse. Judy was born April 23, 1934 in Junction City, Kansas to John (Jack) and Ruth (Smythe) Wood. She has one older sister, Joanne C. (Wood Ehlers) McKenna, and one older brother, Jimmy (Jim) D. Wood, both of Junction City, Kansas as well as two younger brothers, John Louis Wood, Jr. and Joe Dennis Wood, who died in infancy. Judy graduated from Junction City High School in 1952. She completed her R.N. (Registered Nurse) training from Marymount College of Salina, KS in 1955 and passed her state board test on the first try. She worked at the hospital in Junction City after she graduated. Judy also worked at hospitals and doctor’s offices in Stillwater, OK, Omaha NE, and lastly at the University of Nebraska Student Health. She retired from UNL Student Health in 2004. On June 8, 1958, Judy and Lawrence (Larry) E. Ehlers were married at the 1st Presbyterian Church in Junction City, Kansas. They were blessed with three children, twins Pamela Alaine (Ehlers) Crawford and Jeffrey Alan Ehlers, and Douglas Edward Ehlers. Pam now lives in Bartlesville, Oklahoma with her husband Paul, and they have three adult daughters, Amiee Wenson, Rebecca Crawford, and Kathleen Kastner and five grandchildren. Doug and his wife, Nancy, live in Lincoln with their two children Julia Kay and Jack Edward Ehlers. Judy was always participating in many activities throughout her life. While growing up, Judy was involved in Rainbow Girls in Junction City. She then participated in Eastern Star in Junction City, serving as Worthy Matron in 1961 with her brother Jim as Worthy Patron; she was a member for over 60 years. In support of Larry’s job at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Judy was president of Faculty Women’s Club during the 1976-77 academic year. Judy loved Elvis music and pugs. Her children think fondly on their mother and her cooking skills. The family will miss her and treasures that she “mothered” the many students who came through UNL Student Health during her years of service as a nurse to that clinic. Judy was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers, and son, Jeffrey. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, sister, nieces, nephews, and various cousins. Memorial services will be Monday, December 10, 2018 at 10 AM, Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2110 Sheridan Blvd, Lincoln, where Judy was a member. Reverend Dr. Val Putnam will officiate. Graveside services will be on Friday, December 14, 2018 at 11:00 am at Highland Cemetery,703 West Ash Street, Junction City, Kansas.
