Joseph Lefler was born in Sioux City, Iowa on November 5, 1955. He married his beloved wife Candy in 1977 and spent his life in service to his family and community, retiring from the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office in 2017. Captain Joe Lefler passed away on February 9, 2022 after a brief battle with cancer and COVID-19.
Joe began his civilian law enforcement career as a police officer in Ft. Smith, AR serving from 1979-1981 then served the Lincoln Police Department from 1981-1986. He became a deputy with the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office in 1987 and served for 30 years; rising to the rank of captain where he commanded multiple divisions before his retirement in 2017. Prior to his time in civilian law enforcement, Joe also served as an active-duty military police officer in the U.S. Army.
Joe lived in the Malcolm area and is survived by his wife Kandis (Candy), three sons Joe, Ira, and Josh, Daughter in law Valerie and his five grandchildren, LJ, Peyton, Fionna, Riker and Ronin.
He is also survived by 13 siblings and countless other cherished friends and family. He will be missed.
