Jon Morton Hawkins

Jon M. Hawkins, age 79 of Lincoln passed peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, December 18, 2016 in Lincoln. He was born on February 1, 1937 in Tecumseh, Nebraska to Howard W. and Eva Lee (Lane) Hawkins. Jon married Mary Beckius on October 11, 1958 in Lincoln. Jon was a retired Captain from the Lincoln Fire Department. He served the department for 32 years. After retiring, he worked for the University of Nebraska transportation department. He made many friends and acquaintances working for the university. Jon is survived by his sons, Mark (Melissa) Hawkins of Lincoln; Steve Hawkins of Lincoln; grandchildren, Jon Hawkins of Lincoln; Marissa Hawkins of Lincoln; Kendra Trauernicht of Weeping Water; great-grandchildren, Aedra and Isaiah; sister, Marsha (Ward) Whittaker of Elma, Washington; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mary Lou, daughter, Christine Cotton. There will be no visitation. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at 12:30 p.m. at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. Interment will be in Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation or Meals on Wheels of Lincoln.
