John Walter Zohner passed away peacefully on 8/12/2016. John was born to John and Della (Siedle) Zohner on a family farm near Shelby, Nebraska on September 14th, 1924. John attended high school at Shelby and graduated at an early age of 16.
John and Monica Beringer were married on April 20th, 1950 at St. Mary’s Church in David City. They farmed for 3 years near Shelby and then purchased a farm by Rising City, Nebraska, where they farmed from 1953 to 1970, then moved to Lincoln. John worked for the City of Lincoln until he retired in 1987.
John was very outgoing and considered everyone his friend. John and Monica loved polka music and ballroom dancing. They were members of the Czech Club and had many friends that shared their love of polka music.
John was very handy in repairing things. He had a creative mind and liked to tinker with things. John was very organized. There was a place for everything and everything had its place.
John is survived by his wife of 66 years, Monica Zohner, daughter, Judith K. Zohner, son, John Henry (Jack) Zohner and wife Debra A. (Goeschel) Zohner. Grandchildren Stacey (Zohner) Woods and husband Ben Woods, Kelly (Zohner) Halverson and husband Kelly Jay Halverson, and Lindsey (Zohner) Reinke and husband Joe Reinke, and 14 great grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his parents John and Della Zohner, Richard and Geneieve Eller, Henry and Delauris Brase.
Friends and family are invited to attend services at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Rosary will be on Monday, August 15, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. with Mass of Christian Burial following at 2:30 p.m.
