"Life to you, is a series of adventures," according to her fortune cookie, and that was how Joanna lived her life. Joanna Florence Rogers was born in Omaha, Nebraska (NE) on November 23, 1939, to George and Virginia (Bentz) Rogers. She passed away on September 8, 2024 in Mesa, Arizona.
Joanna was a resident of Lincoln, Nebraska from 1941, graduating with the Lincoln High School Class of 1957. She received a BA in Education from University of Nebraska at Lincoln (UNL) in 1961; and a Master's degree in Educational Administration from UNL in 1996. Joanna was preceded in death by her daughter Julie K. Brugh, husband Robert Krohn, brother and sister-in-law, George and Roma Rogers and her parents.
In 1961, Joanna married Herbert Brugh and they had two children, Timothy Charles and Julie Kay. They were divorced in 1970. Joanna then married Robert Loos and ganined three step-children: Vickie Smith, Robert and Russell Loos. Julie Kay died in a car accident in 1986 and Joanna and Robert were divorced. Joanna met Robert Krohn from Ankney, Iowa, in 1988 and they were married in Niagara Falls in 1999. Robert passed away in 2007.
After Rob's death. Joanna learned to square dance and danced in both Lincoln and Omaha for ten years with her partner Leonard Haschenburger of Dunbar, NE. In 2017, Joanna met Daniel Hawkins of Wymore, NE. She moved to Beatrice, NE in 2019 and they were together until his death in October of 2020.
Joanna's career included employment at First Christian Church; Manpower, INC.; Lincoln Public Schools; Indian Hills Church; First Presbyterian Church; campaign secretary and assistant to Governor J. James Exon; administrative assistant to Dean Harvey Perlman, and 20 years as business manager at UNL College of Law.
Joanna's volunteer work included serving as president of the following: Lincoln Friendship Force, Lincoln Personal Crisis, Democratic Womens Club, Kappa Delta Sorority Alumnae; chairman of the KD House Corporation, secretary of the Lancaster County Democratic Party, and treasurer of the Heartland Salt and Pepper Collectors Club. She was a member of Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, Sweet Adelines, and a senior bowler. Joanna was a breast cancer survivor and an avid square dancer doing square, ballroom and country dancing.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Tanya Brugh of Emerald Hills, California; step-sons Bob Loos of Lincoln, NE and his wife Rita; Russell Loos of Grand Island, NE; John Krohn of Polk City, Iowa (IA) and his wife SHeri; step-daughters Vickie Smith of Lincoln, NE; Jill Krohn and Jennifer Krohn of Redfield, IA; Amy Hoskins of Littleton, Colorado and her husband Kevin. She is also survived by her brother, Charles Rogers of Columbus, NE and his wife Leona; and grandchildren Elena Grace Brugh Emerald Hills, CA, and Ian and Greta Krohn of Polk City, IA. She also leaves behind may well-loved step grand-children, nieces, nephews and cousins. Honorary step-children include: Elliott Hawkins, Angie Hawkins Meyer and her husband Mark; and honorary grandchildren include Macy Meyer, Brandy Meyer and his wife Anastasia Meyer of Wymore and Kinley Robinson of Lincoln.
Memorial services will be held in Mesa, Arizona and Lincoln, Nebraska. Memorial gifts may be made to the University of Nebraska Foundation in memory of Julie K. Brugh, the First Presbytertian Church of Lincoln, the Kappa Delta Foundation, or Lincoln Public Schools Foundation.
