James Richter was born July 4, 1974 to Nancy and Harold Richter in Lincoln, NE. Growing up the youngest of five siblings, James learned from an early age to make lots of friends and always make people laugh. Those skills never left him. James graduated from Lincoln Southeast High School in 1992 and went on to get his degree from the University of NE. He then began working for UNL where he remained the resident “computer guru” for over 20 years. Although James had many many friends, he didn’t settle down with his true best friend, Roxanne, until 2004. James and Roxanne enjoyed watching multiple sporting events, especially hockey, hanging with lots of friends, especially at O’Rourke’s, and cheering on the Husker Football team, not especially in the last few years. James became the very proud dad of Marcus in 2006 and Lucy in 2009 and no one else had a chance at stealing his heart. James was happiest when he was with Roxy, Marcus and Lucy and showed a nearly constant smile when they were out doing things as a family. He was so proud of Marcus and Lucy’s love for playing hockey and loved taking them to practices, games and tournaments. Undoubtedly, he always met a new friend at each game with his infectious smile and laugh. James was often known through the neighborhood as the social director for his ability to plan great gatherings and find any reason to try out a new restaurant. Unfortunately, James was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in 2016. After enduring a lot of chemo and sickness, James went through a successful stem cell transplant and fought hard to enjoy nearly two more years of healthy life. James was a constant reminder that life is short and no day should ever be taken for granted. James’ smile and laugh lives on through his surviving family: wife Roxanne (Janikowski), children Marcus (11) and Lucy (9), father Harold Richter, siblings Theresa (Chris) Dobson, Ken (Teresa) Richter, Ron (Sandi) Richter, and Ed (Stacey) Richter. Nieces and nephews: Josh, Jessie, Emma and Grace Dobson, Cole and Lauren Richter, and Duane, Matt and Joe Richter. He was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy Richter. James’ friends are far too extensive to list – but know that he loved making you all smile and laugh.
