Gloria Gayle Collingsworth passed away peacefully on December 13, 2022. Her spirit is carried on by her husband, four children, ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, as well as an extended family of relations and friends.
Gloria was born as Gloria Gayle Scott on September 3, 1933, in Jefferson City, Missouri. She grew up in Centralia, Missouri and graduated from Sunnydale Academy. She attended Union College, in Lincoln, Nebraska, where she describes herself as being very social, serving as Editor of the school newspaper, participating in a female singing group, and playing the organ at school and church services. She met W.B. Collingsworth (affectionately known by her and others as "Dub") at Union College and they married on August 8, 1954. Dub and Gloria soon started a family and built a strong community of friends throughout their life in Lincoln.
Gloria took full advantage of her 89 years of life and will be remembered most for her unwavering devotion to her family and friends. She leaves behind many special memories, from her tradition of making waffles on Sundays for her grandchildren, overcoming a fear of flying to enthusiastically take numerous trips around the world, including riding on a donkey at Petra in Jordan at the age of 78, and friendships from participating in a ladies' bowling league for almost 40 years. She enjoyed attending her children and grandchildren's school programs, athletic events and recitals and was immensely proud of each of their accomplishments. One of her most favorite activities was seeing Broadway musicals and she supported the local theatre community volunteering at the Lincoln Community Playhouse.
Gloria was an amazing woman, acting as bookkeeper for the family's various business ventures, while also juggling the responsibilities of raising four kids. She also contributed to supporting her family by holding various jobs, including as receptionist and registrar at Helen Hyatt Elementary, the school her children attended, and serving as receptionist at Bryan Lincoln Memorial Hospital.
Gloria was preceded in death by her generous and loving parents, J.K. (Kirmet) and Freida Scott. She will be joining her grandson Joshua Collingsworth, who died at a young age, as well as her older sister Donna Scott Filipps, in a place of rest, free from every day worries of the world. In addition to her husband W.B. Collingsworth, she is survived by her adult children and their spouses, Bruce (and Charlotte) Collingsworth, Connie Collingsworth (and Allen Wilcox), Breck (and Tracy) Collingsworth and Blake (and Kathy) Collingsworth, and their children and grandchildren. Gloria will be missed by all those who had the honor of having her as a trusted and loyal friend and she will be cherished by her family for her enduring love and devotion.
Funeral arrangements are in the care of Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home & Cemetery. A celebration of Gloria's life is being arranged for a future date and will be made available. In Gloria's memory, donations may be made to The Joshua Collingsworth Memorial Foundation, info@joshuamemorial.org, P.O.
