Jerry was born to Harold and Martha (Hoff) Lott in Lincoln Nebraska. He was joined in 1938 by his sister, JoAnne Alice (Lott) Rockel. He attended Lincoln High School where he graduated in 1950. Jerry met the love of his life, Constance “Connie” Arlene (Schaaf) while watching her play baseball in the outfield with neighborhood kids at F Street Park. He teased her that they only put the worst players in outfield. Thus began their relationship. They were married on July 12, 1951 and were married for 69 years. To this union were born Gregory (Ingrid Bolm) Lott and Kristin (Dale) Taylor.
Shortly after they were married, Jerry was drafted into the Army and served overseas in the Korean War. He received several medals and was honorably discharged in 1953. He attended the University of Nebraska where he received his degree in Civil Engineering and worked at Lincoln Steel Company, then at The Clark Enersen Partners as a Structural Engineer Field Inspector. Perhaps his crowning career achievement was his work on the University of Nebraska Bob Devaney Sports Center while with Clark Enersen, and then accepting the keys to the building from Mr Devaney himself to become the Building Superintendent in 1976. This was a dream job for him as he was a dyed in the wool Husker Fan! While in this position he affected many lives for great good. He shared his Faith in God through example. He retired from UNL in 1994 and enjoyed several part time positions, playing cards and cribbage with friends, coffee groups, and leading Bible Studies.
Jerry was a People Person and his life passion was to make Christ known to those around him. He was a member of Lincoln Berean Church and served on the Board of Deacons. He shared his faith when opportunity arose, studied his Bible faithfully, lead Bible study groups, taught classes and was always grateful for the teaching he received from many Godly teachers.
Next in line was his family whom he loved and cherished. He helped with Little Chiefs, Boy Scouts, horse shows and so many other things. Adding family members to his tribe gave him pleasure. As his 9 grandchildren came along he enjoyed watching them grow and often attended their events, and hung around long enough to enjoy great-grandchildren, all 13 of them - and counting!
Jerry was a very Civic-minded person and shared much of his time serving on various Boards, including Lincoln Berean Deacon Board as already mentioned, Tabitha, Cedars Home for Children, The People’s City Mission, and was very active in the Lincoln Sertoma Club, of which he served as President at one point. Wherever he began a good work, he fully committed and made sure to leave it better than when he began.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Constance (Schaaf) Lott, sister JoAnne and Art Rockel, son and daughter-in-law Greg and Ingrid Lott; Amy (Lott) Robert Seybert, Isabella and Eleanora; Anna (Lott) Vincent Ewald, Connor, Carson and Caden; Ashley (Lott) Victor Sepulveda; Eric Lott; Aaron Lott Kayla (Grote), Eskel.
