George was born on March 26, 1934, in Leoni Township, MI. He grew up on a farm in Moundsville, WV, where he was fostered by Blaine and Lucille Allen. The couple and their children gave him a loving home and taught him the value of hard work.
In 1955, George joined the United States Air Force, and became an aircraft sheet metal mechanic. His 3 ½ years of service took him on adventures to England and Iceland.
On April 6, 1957, George married Elaine Moyer, and together they raised four sons: Rick, Dave, Blaine and Mike, and one daughter, Laura.
After a brief stint as a Fuller Brush salesman, George received an opportunity to work at American Stores, where he remained until the company’s closure in 1982. He later found work as a security officer at both Eastmont and Lincoln Memorial.
George had many hobbies and talents. Once dreaming of becoming an artist, he drew humorous cartoons which often poked fun at his bowling buddies. His hard-earned bowling skills brought him opportunities to participate in tournaments around the country. He once even bowled a perfect 300 game. Many years spent honing his fishing skills earned him multiple Master Angler awards. But more important to George than any trophy was the time he spent sharing his interests with family and friends. He loved to bowl, fish and cheer on the Huskers with his kids and grandkids, and watch his great-grandsons participate in various sports.
The best times with George were spent just sitting and listening to his slightly embellished stories. He had a gift for drawing everyone close and finding the humor in any situation. His gentle teasing and sarcastic wit always had us rolling with laughter. We will miss those times, but we are blessed with the memories.
George is survived by his wife Elaine, his children: Rick, Dave (Tracie), Blaine (Debi), Laura (Don), and Mike, his grandchildren: Nicholas (Jennifer), Nathan, Daniel, Mary, Matthew, Taryn, Brandon, Kyle and Ryan, and great-grandchildren: Tyler, Talon and Vada. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Bryce.
A memorial service for George will be held at 2:00 on Monday, June 5th at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be given to prostate cancer research. www.pcf.org.
