Ellen was known for her straightforward nature, quick wit, and fun-loving spirit. She never hesitated to speak her mind and was a source of humor and honesty to those around her. Her life was a reflection of her deep faith as a devoted follower of Christ, demonstrated through her active participation in nursing home ministries and Christian women's organizations across the Midwest.
Ellen's professional journey was as diverse as it was impactful. Starting as a licensed cosmetologist until she Married Paul, she later dedicated herself to raising her four sons before venturing into politics in 1992. Ellen served three terms as a legislator in the Montana House of Representatives, representing House District 26. Her commitment to civic engagement continued as she worked on numerous projects aimed at bettering her community in Flandreau, SD, where she moved in 1998 with her husband, Paul.
A graduate of Beatrice High School in Nebraska, Ellen's lifelong interests included her beloved Nebraska Cornhuskers, Church/community involvement, politics and tennis.
Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Bergman, in 1998, and her son, Patrick Michael, in 2022. She is survived by her sons, Barry (Kelli), Brad (Marcella), and Chris (Lena); four brothers; three sisters; ten grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Ellen left an indelible mark on this world and our lives. Her love will continue to guide us, and her laughter will echo in our hearts forever. Rest in peace, sweet soul. You will be dearly missed, but never forgotten.
