Edna Leota Fredricka Bettenhausen was born April 22, 1924, on a farmhouse near Bancroft, Nebraska to Mr. & Mrs. Edward (Hulda Long) Breitbarth. She was baptized May 18,1924 at St. John Lutheran Church Pender, Nebraska, by Reverend Robert E. Kruse. She was confirmed June 20, 1937, at St John Lutheran Church, Pender, Nebraska by Reverend Robert E. Kruse.
She attended Cuming County rural School District 61. On December 23, 1945, she married Wilmer L. Bettenhausen at St John's Lutheran Church near Pender, Nebraska. The couple lived in West Point their entire married lives. She worked at the Five and Dime Store in West Point and then she went to work at being a mom and running the household and helping her husband run his insurance business. As a young lady she played organ for her home church St John's Pender, Nebraska. She was in the choir and a bible school teacher, in Ladies Aid, LWML and several circles after joining St Paul Lutheran Church and marrying Wilmer.
She loved Earth Day as it fell on her birthday which fit right into her love of gardening and planting flowers. She was captured by cooking shows and especially Kitchen Klatter Radio Show where she was not to be interrupted while writing down the recipe. She loved entertaining family and friends and always had Easter Dinner with extended family.
Preceded in death by her parents Edward and Hulda Breitbarth, her husband Wilmer, daughter Patricia, brothers and sisters-in-law, God-daughter Janet Craig and great nephew Michael Breitbarth.
Survived by daughter Bonita (Clayton) Erb of West Point; son Robert Edward (Louise) Bettenhausen of Lincoln, Nebraska; grandchildren: Cory (Gail) Houser of Fontanelle, Nebraska; Jeffrey (Natalie) Erb of Lincoln, Nebraska; Kyle (Angela) Bettenhausen of Lincoln, Nebraska; Jeffrey (Michelle) Ernst of Bellevue, Nebraska; Philip (Jennifer) of Sidney, Nebraska; 9 great grandchildren along with nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at 9:30 am, with a funeral service to follow at 10:30 am at St Paul Lutheran Church, 434 North Lincoln, West Point, Nebraska 68788. Burial will be at Mt Hope Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. lincolnfh.com
