Donna L Holka, age 93, of Lincoln, passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2022. Donna was born September 11, 1928 to Willard and Grace Lawson. At the ages of 12 and 13, Donna was the Lancaster County spelling Champ. In High School enjoyed playing volleyball and soft ball and excelled in music. After she graduated , she worked at Woolworth's and attended NBI (business college). She was crowned queen of the Nu Phi Mu (business girls sorority) and gave the graduation speech. She then became a private secretary to the Nebraska Motor Carriers Association for 2 1/2 years. She met her future husband, Charles at Pla-Mor and married on December 18,1949, becoming a hard working farm wife and mother. They had 3 children Karen, Alan, Brian. She and her family lived near Elmwood, Eagle, Raymond, Malcolm and Emerald. Donna became very involved in school activities and kids outside activities, just like her parents were. Donna also enjoyed getting together with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially enjoying holidays where she fixed a big meal. She also enjoyed going to their special activities and just spending time with them. Donna drove a school bus for 31 years, often baking treats for her students on special days. Donna also cleaned houses and a motel, hauled grain in a large truck to Lincoln, Raymond and Emerald. She volunteered at the Veteran's Hospital and the Lincoln city mission for many years. Donna and Charles danced regularly at Pla-Mor, The Starlight and the Flying V following their favorite bands. Over 60 years ago Donna bought a pair of Raspberry red heels and still danced in them at her granddaughters wedding in 2011. Donna and Charles also loved getting together with friends and playing cards on many Saturday nights. Donna taught Sunday school and Bible school, and was president of the Raymond and Malcolm Methodist Ladies and President of the Pleasant Dale Auxiliary, Crounse Extension Club and held other offices. She participated in the St. Paul Methodist Church WSCS and baked cookies to church fellowship regularly. 2016, she moved to the Legacy Terrace and then to Seward in 2019.
Donna is preceded in death by her husband Charles Holka; sister Ruth and her husband Joe Slaby, sister-in-law Mary Lawson, brother-in-law Patrick Peterson; Sharon and her husband Gayle Petersen, sister-in-law and brother-in-law LaVern and husband Larry Caddy. Donna is survived by her loving children, Karen (Virgil) Kremer, Alan Holka, Brian Holka; siblings, Marilyn Peterson, Roger Lawson; grandchildren, Elisha (Loren) Sites, Adam (Tiffany) Holka, Ashley Holka, Lucas (Stefanie) Kremer, Stephanie (Eric) Meyer, Jeff Holka, Erika Holka CJ Holka, Zachary Holka, Mattias Holka;15 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
