Donald W. Manley, age 93 died on November 4, 2018. He was born on October 8, 1925 in De Smet, South Dakota to Myron and Bessie Manley. Don grew up on a farm outside of Arlington, South Dakota. In 1943, at the age of 17, Don enlisted in the United States Navy. He earned the rank of Aviation Ordnanceman Third Class and flew on a PB4Y-2. Don was honorably discharged in 1946. Don graduated from South Dakota State University. It was here he met his wife, Harriet. They were married in 1951 and had a wonderful life together until her passing in 2005. Don spent his entire career working for the United States Soil Conservation Service. He is survived by his daughter, Donna Manley, son Gary (Kristin) Manley, grandchildren, Robert Slama, Ann (Brian) Bulik, Kathryn Slama, Tyler Manley, Skye Manley and many nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his wife Harriet, his parents, and brothers Clifford (Helen) Leland (Emma) Irwin, (Vera Ann) and Dale. A memorial service will take place December 1, 2018 at 11:00 am in the chapel at St Mark’s United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Mark’s Men’s Ministry.
