Donald (Donnie) Lee Elwell, 86, of Lincoln, NE was called to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 10, 2016. He was born July 11, 1929 in Chester, NE to Rueben B. and Willamina (Heine) Elwell Donald graduated from Chester High School in 1948 and was drafted into the United States Army from 1951-1953 where he served in the Korean War. Upon return from Korea, Donald married his high school sweetheart JoAnn (Gausman) and moved to Lincoln, NE where they raised three children. Donald was a passionate outdoorsman where he enjoyed Hunting, Fishing and Camping. He was also an avid bowler, golfer and loyal Husker sports fan and loved playing cribbage with his family. Donald enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was a faithful and lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church with his Christian faith being one of the utmost parts of his life. Preceded in death by wife of 59 years, Kitty JoAnn Elwell; parents, Rueben and Willamina (Heine) Elwell ; sisters, Lula (Elwell) Schuelke and Berdeen (Elwell) VanBeek; brothers, Willard, Milford, Max, Leonard and Robert Elwell. Survived by Sister Fona Mae (Patti) Washburn, Seattle, WA, Daughter and Son-in-Law Mona and Steve Spratlen, Son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Margaret Elwell; Son and Special Friend Joel Elwell and Kelli Zimmerman. Grandchildren, Holly (Yardley) and Gunther Baker, Lindsey (Yardley) Kilgore, Joshua and Jamie Spratlen, Madeleine Elwell all of Lincoln, NE; Julius Elwell of Kearney, NE; great-grandchildren Alex Cleland and Rory Baker, Lincoln, NE.; as well as brother and sister –in- laws, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation at Lincoln Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6800 S. 14th Street, Lincoln; Thursday, July 14 , 4-8pm with family present. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 15 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 724 S. 12th Street, Lincoln; Internment will be immediately following the funeral at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery, 6800 So. 14th Street in Lincoln (Military Honors).
