Daniel J. Davis, Sr., of Lincoln, died suddenly on May 12, 2016. He was born on December 18, 1946 in St. Paul, MN to Joseph and Gloria Davis. Dan graduated from Morningside College, Sioux City, IA, with a Bachelor of Arts degree (magna cum laude). He also earned two master’s degrees from the University of Chicago and taught New Testament at Penn State University for two years. He was an ordained minister of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and served churches in Vinton and Waterloo, IA, before becoming the Associate Regional Minister for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Nebraska. He also served as the Executive Secretary of Interchurch Ministries of Nebraska and for the 15 years before his retirement in 2014, he was the minister of the Hallam United Church of Christ, Hallam, NE. He was married to Janet Poppy on January 13, 1968. She survives him with their son, D.J. (Abby) Davis; a daughter, Carrie (Eric) Michielutti; grandchildren Lucas and Faith Davis; and a brother, Tom (Kitty) Davis. He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Gloria, and his sister Kathleen. Donations in Dan’s name came be made to the Make-A-Wish Lincoln Foundation.
